OPEN CALL FOR STREET GALLERY PARTICIPATION


CONCEPT FOUNDATION

NO SLEEP TILL LEOPOLDSTADT was founded by two individuals who believed that the partnership between Brooklyn and Leopoldstadt deserves active support. The association aims to strengthen the district partnership established in 2007 by focusing on four pillars: art, culture, concerts, and culinary experiences. The goal is to foster an interdisciplinary exchange that brings artists and inspiring personalities from both cities together to create a sustainable cultural network.


DESCRIPTION

NO SLEEP TILL LEOPOLDSTADT is curating an outdoor Street Gallery at Untere Augartenstrasse 5, 1020 Vienna a revitalized abandoned building in the heart of Vienna’s 2nd district. We invite artists based in Brooklyn to submit their works for this exciting public presentation in Leopoldstadt. The aim is to bring innovative, inspiring art into the urban landscape and strengthen the cultural connection between Brooklyn and Vienna through public exposure and creative dialogue.

Selected works will be displayed in an open-air format, making art accessible to the public and integrating it into everyday life in a unique urban context.

We are planning an opening vernissage to celebrate the launch of the street gallery. However, at this point, we cannot guarantee coverage for travel and accommodation costs for the participating artist, as this depends on the amount of funding we receive from the city.

DETAILS

  • Location: Untere Augartenstrasse 5, 1020 Vienna, Austria
  • Display Duration: 1 year (starting in April 2025)
  • Covered by Association: Printing and installation of the works, promotional activities, and the creation of accompanying media materials.
  • Covered by Artist: Preparation of high-resolution digital files for printing and any applicable licensing fees for exhibited works (if relevant).



APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Artists may apply regardless of age, origin, education, or prior exhibition history. All visual art forms are welcome, including but not limited to:
  • Photography
  • Illustration
  • Graphic art
  • Mixed media

Applicants should send a PDF application containing:
  • A short CV highlighting relevant artistic experiences.
  • A brief artist statement describing the submitted work and how it fits into the concept of public art in an urban environment.
  • A description of the artist's connection to Brooklyn and how it informs their work.
  • Samples of work: Up to 5 images (JPEG, PNG, or PDF) with a short description for each piece.

SELECTION PROCESS

The participating artists will be selected by the NO SLEEP TILL LEOPOLDSTADT Advisory Board. Recommendations of artists from individuals, institutions, galleries, and publishing companies active in the art scene are welcome. However, prior contact with the recommended artist must be established to ensure their interest and practical availability for participation.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be either based in Brooklyn, New York, or have a significant connection to Brooklyn.
